Amit Verma, MD is the Director of Hemato-Oncology at Albert Einstein College of Medicine, Co-Director of the Blood Cancer Institute and Interim Chair of Department of Oncology at Montefiore Medical Center. His research discovered that the TGF-b, SMAD, p38, IRAK pathways are therapeutic targets in myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS) and leukemias, and led drug development for these targets. His research also led to the development of luspatercept (Reblozyl®) as an FDA approved drug in MDS. He has been the recipient of many awards including the ASCO Young Investigator Award, the Harris Methodist Foundation Award for research in bone marrow failure, the Leukemia Lymphoma Society Scholar in Clinical Research and the Greenberg-Wisch Award for contributions in myeloid malignancies. He is an elected member of the American Society of Clinical Investigation, the Davidoff Society and the Interurban Club. He is on the scientific advisory board of numerous pharma and biotech companies and has co-founded ClinStreet and Stelexis Biosciences.
He completed a Bone Marrow Transplant Fellowship at Northwestern University, Fellowship in Hematology-Oncology and Internal Medicine Residency at the University of Illinois at Chicago. He received his M.B.B.S degree from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Delhi, India.
